Studies

May Movies of Faith(4 week study) – Thursdays, May 3 - 24 - noon - 1:30 pm in room 329  with lunch. Register the day before if you want lunch ($10) but just show up to see the film.

The series this Spring is all four Thursdays in May, and features new films with faith perspectives. On May 3 we see Higher Ground, the story of a young girl brought up in the Pentecostal faith who begins to question the teachings of her church. It is rated R.

On May 10 we will see Of Gods and Men, an award winning French film exploring the real life story of monks in Algeria who must choose to flee in the face of local violence that might lead to their deaths or remain to serve those around them. Rated PG13, this is subtitled.

On May 17 we’ll do There Be Dragons, a film from noted director Roland Joffe who did The Mission. This film, set during the Spanish Civil War, explores themes of forgiveness and reconciliation, and involves the early life of a recently canonized saint of the Catholic Church. It carries a PG rating.

Finally, on May 24 we will screen Courageous, rated PG 13. This film represents some of the better work of the independent Christian film making genre, from the maker of Fireproof. It explores loyalty and fidelity to family.

For those who want, after each film we’ll have a short discussion of its themes.
