CAMBODIA
HPUMC has made a commitment to Habitat for Humanity International to build 200 homes around the globe by the end of 2016 as part of our church’s centennial celebration. We are honored to continue in the tradition of Carpenter for Christ as we go “global” in our efforts to make affordable housing a reality for families who would otherwise not be able to ever own their own home!
As a part of that effort, HPUMC will be sending two teams a year to build homes around the world. Join us November 1-11, 2012 as we travel to Siem Reap in Cambodia to build two homes. We will be staying in a local hotel and Habitat International takes care of all the land arrangements! The final cost is yet to be determined but it will be approximately $2000. Please contact Lisa Stewart at stewartl@hpumc.org for more information. Space is limited.
Mission trips are a fabulous way to get involved in the church, to meet people and to learn about a new culture. And there is no greater joy than helping others achieve something that we take for granted here-a safe, comfortable place to live!

COSTA RICA

The summer of 2006, HPUMC initiated a partnership with Ray & Lidia Zirkel, Methodist missionaries serving in Costa Rica, who had been researching and receiving approval for the establishment of the first Methodist Children's Home in Costa Rica. They witnessed first-hand the over-crowding of state facilities and realized the potential of an alternative model for orphan care. Instead of expansive, institutional structures with still too few beds, Ray & Lidia wanted to provide a place where the children would be nurtured in a Christian family environment.
HPUMC made a commitment to help raise the money to create, build and help support the first Methodist Children's Home in Costa Rica. The home is for children who have been legally declared abandoned and raise them in a model Christian environment until such time as they are either adopted or reach adulthood. Ray and Lidia are overseeing the project. And since Ray is a former member of HPUMC, they are uniquely capable of integrating our members into every phase of development, construction and ongoing support.
The first home “Casa Esperanza” is open! The home was dedicated March 16, 2011 and in June, the first children were received. Currently, work on the second home has begun. Much work remains to complete Phase One of the Master Plan and ongoing support is needed to sustain the children in the new home. Cost is $700.
