This year the HPUMC Youth Spring Break Mission Trip will be going to San Antonio!
We will be doing light construction (i.e. drywall, flooring, painting, and some roofing for the older kids) through an organization called Blueprint Ministries. Blueprint exists to make houses in San Antonio safe, dry, and warm. Since 54% of poor homeowners in San Antonio live in physically deficient housing, there is a lot of work to do! We will be staying at Blueprint’s home base, which has dorm style housing, onsite showers, and a kitchen to keep us well fed. We will work hard during the day, then come back to our host site at night for delicious meals, warm showers, and amazing worship. Invite your friends and lets make this the best week of our lives!
DATES:
We will depart on Sunday, March 11 at 8am from the Biggers Building, and we will return Friday, March 16 by 3pm so that you can catch up on sleep before school starts back up, and still do something with your parents that weekend if you wish.
PRICE:
This year, we will be implementing an early bird registration price in order to be better stewards of money. Van rental and hotel reservation costs escalate closer to the deadlines, and thus our costs reflect that. The further out you sign up, the cheaper it is!
$520 if registered by December 1, 2011
$549 if registered December 2-February 1, 2012
$599 if after February 1, 2012
Registration closes February 29, 2012.
Note: Our new internet setup requires that you pay at least a partial payment to reserve a spot - you don't have to pay in full, but at least a partial payment is necessary to reserve your spot.
MANDATORY PARENT MEETINGS:
We will go over this information in depth at the mandatory parent meetings
Parent Meetings – Meetings will be 6:30pm Monday, February 20, or 6:30pm Tuesday Feb 28 in the Youth Basement – you don’t have to attend both, but we do require that you attend one, as that is where we will go over all the last-minute details necessary to make sure that this is a truly life-changing trip!
FAQ:
How are we getting there?
A: ROAD TRIP! We will be taking vans to San Antonio, as well as a box truck to carry all of our extra baggage, supplies, etc.
Who can come?
A: Registration is open to students from 6th grade – 12th grade; you don’t have to be a member of HPUMC, or even a regular here – if you want to come and find out what missions are all about, you are welcome. Bring all your friends!
I want to go, but the price is a bit high – what can I do?
A: We understand that money can be tight sometimes, but we still want to do everything possible to ensure that students can come on these trips. Therefore, anyone who works max hours with Swishin For Mission (our basketball tournament fundraiser) will receive a 10% discount off of their trip price.
Furthermore, we do offer a limited number of scholarships (including full scholarships) for students who cannot afford to pay. All scholarship questions must go through Tova Sido, and must be approved before December 1
What does the price include?
A:The trip cost covers meals, transportation, work supplies, housing for the week, entertainment, and a T-shirt. Students will still need to bring money for food on travel days
Will there be adequate adult Supervision?
A:We will maintain a 1: 5 ratio of adults to students, including several full-time staff.
Do I need to bring tools?
A: No. We will go over a packing list at the parent meeting, but we will take care of all tools and materials; you will purely be responsible for personal belongings.
Is it Safe?
A: Absolutely. We will be staying in a compound that will lock at night. Furthermore, Blueprint has an established presence in the community, and has not had any problems with neighbors.
How does registration work?
A:Its pretty simple actually - at thebottom of the page, there is a blank box where you write in how much you want to pay for the trip today (you can pay the rest at the parent meeting down the road), then scroll down and click 'continue' down at the bottom right. The site will prompt you to fill out your personal information (might have to scroll down on some screens to get there). Follow the prompts and it will get you set up! Note - you will have to put at least some money down to reserve the spot. Feel free to ask if you have problems.
Who do I talk to if I have more questions?
A: Bill Gepford - Gepfordb@hpumc.org or 214.523.2149
